BSI designed the "Problem-Solving Tools and Techniques" eLearning course to provide participants with an understanding of basic problem solving tools used to find an issue’s root cause. During the course, participants observe one organization’s analysis of their problem and the process they use to find the root cause. By the end of the scenario, participants obtain a problem solving ‘toolbox’ and the knowledge necessary to use the tools for root cause analysis and improvement of processes in their own organizations.

Tools and techniques discussed include:

• Brainstorming
• Cause and Effect Diagrams
• Process Mapping
• Affinity Analysis
• 5-Why Analysis
• Pareto Analysis
• Histograms

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Determine the difference between symptoms and causes
• Identify types of structured problem solving techniques
• Recognize the benefits of different problem solving strategies
• Identify when to use certain problem solving tools over others

The intended audience for this course includes:

• Professionals who wish to use a formal problem solving methodology for the purpose of continual improvement
• Professionals from organizations that wish to increase customer satisfaction, efficiency, or sales
